I LOVE finding products from local companies that simply rock. When I met local mom Kristin Ahmer, the founder of the Sili Company, I knew I was in the presence of genius!
When Kristin’s oldest was a baby, she was frustrated with the disposable squeezes she would find at the grocery store. They were messy and would spill everywhere. They were expensive. And on top of it all, even the high end organic ones were full of preservatives. She searched the web for a reusable, spill proof solution that she could use with her own homemade baby food and found nothing. So she decided to create something herself! That was the beginning of the Sili Squeeze.
The materials for the Sili Squeeze are all made of certified food- and medical-grade safe materials that are BPA, Phthalate, PVC, latex and lead-free. It’s super easy to clean, it’s all top rack dishwasher safe. Because it is made out of soft silicone, I feel safe about letting my daughter have it in the car. And the best part about the Sili Squeeze is that you get to use your own baby food!
We’ve been using our Sili Squeeze since our daughter was about 8 months old, and we love, love, LOVE it. I’ve never been the mom who goes crazy with baby food recipes (props to you if you are), so we usually fill it with greek yogurt ( I like to blend in fresh fruit) or the home canned sugar free applesauce that my mom made just for her. Sometimes, I like to put in thicker soups that’s I’ve warmed up, like her current favorite, butternut squash soup. Because I make the food fresh, I don’t have to worry about preservatives or recalls (yes, occasionally those disposable packages are RECALLED. Gross!). They have some fabulous recipes on their website here too, if you are searching for ideas.
Here are a few of my tips about using the Sili Squeeze:
1) The Sili Company makes two different types of tops for their Squeeze bottles. The original Sili Squeeze spout is meant for kids under two. It is a more spill proof option, which is great for babies and toddlers. Babies who are used to breast or bottle feeding will be able to root at it to squeeze the nipple and get food to flow out. The Sili Squeeze with Eeeze is more free flowing, so it is usually more appropriate for older kids. HOWEVER, I found that since I started my daughter on disposable squeezes, she was originally really frustrated with the regular Sili Squeeze spout because she had to work harder to get food out of the spout. I recommend buying both spouts (they are interchangeable on top of the squeeze body, and you will probably end up using both at different times).
2) Use the Sili Funnel to help you fill the Squeeze. If you already have a good funnel in your kitchen, you might be able to make that work (I didn’t have one). The Sili Funnel fits perfectly into the squeeze, and it makes filling the squeeze SO MUCH EASIER. Because it’s made of flexible silicone, it’s super easy to pack along with your squeezes when you are traveling.
3) At the beginning, screwing on the lid of the Sili Squeeze can be a bit tricky. Watch this video, get some practice, and soon it will be second nature.
This is not a sponsored post, however my daughter did model in the last Sili Squeeze photoshoot with Christina G Photography (she is the cute redhead in the pictures above). We did receive a free Sili Squeeze for doing that, but I promise that I would be raving to you about this product even if I had never met Kristin, it’s just that genius. If you are looking for a local Inland Store to pick up your Sili Squeeze, they carry them at Mother’s Haven!
