Usually, my instinct when buying a gift for a baby shower is to use the registry. Most moms have some sort of idea what they want, and straying from the registry to give them something you thought was just too cute to pass up may cause them a pregnancy induced anxiety attack after the shower is over. The nesting instinct is REAL, and when it gets closer to go time many mamas to be start to flat out panic when they don’t have things checked off their list. But, if you insist on going off registry, here are a few of my favorite gifts.
1) Maternity/Newborn Photography
New parents have so many expenses to worry about (baby gear, hospital or midwife bills, etc) that sometimes the luxury of photography is something that gets passed up. The newborn days or the time during pregnancy are incredibly beautiful and meaningful, but they pass by so fast. Make sure that these times aren’t missed by gifting the mother to be with a professional photography session.

2) A Pedicure
There comes a time in pregnancy when you can no longer reach your own toes. For some mamas, their feet can get swollen and uncomfortable. Having someone pamper and massage your feet is a gift straight from heaven! And it’s a wonderful feeling to look down over your belly to see freshly painted toes.
*If you are worried about avoiding harsh chemicals during pregnancy and lives in North Idaho, check out Pedi and Polish Natural Nail Boutique in Hayden. They’re amazing!
Continuing along with the theme of pampering the mama to be is prenatal massage. Pregnancy can be very hard on a woman’s body, and a good massage can help soothe tired muscles and help nervous mamas to be to relax and breathe. Make sure that the massage therapist specializes in prenatal massage in order to keep mama and baby comfortable and safe!
4) Cleaning Services
During the end of the 2nd and the 3rd trimester, bending over to clean up messes on the floor can become a near impossibility for a mama to be. Many women who are nearing the time for their baby’s birth want to be able to clean the house and prepare for the new baby, but the reality of scrubbing out the bathtub or even vacuuming can be physically daunting. You can either hire a professional cleaning service or if you think the mama would feel comfortable with it, offer to do the cleaning yourself. Many moms to be prefer that the house is cleaned with baby safe plant based cleaning supplies, so make sure to keep that in mind.
5) A Date Night
Date nights after a new baby can be few and far between, so it’s important for couples to get out of the house and spend time together BEFORE baby comes. Get the couple tickets for a play you know they have been wanting to see, or even gift cards for a romantic dinner. If they have older children that you know well enough, you can even offer to babysit!
